The 5-Hour Pre-Licensing Course is a required component of the NYS driver licensing process. After passing the written test and acquiring a permit, prospective drivers must attend a 5-Hour class to obtain the certificate (MV-278) which will enable them to schedule their road test. The course curriculum is designed to construct a framework of knowledge about basic driving skills, defensive driving, drinking and driving, traffic signs and other relevant driving issues.

By actively participating in, and completing this Pre-Licensing course, students have the opportunity to develop safe driving habits, and to improve their driving behaviors.
